Customer Engagement Edition
Welcome back to Booth Buzz by Black Rock, our monthly newsletter dedicated to sharing insights, practical strategies, and opportunities for the vendor community.
As the event season begins to gain momentum, booths start seeing larger crowds and more curious browsers. April is the perfect time to focus on one of the most important elements of successful vending: customer engagement.
I’ve literally seen vendors sit in their booths and read a book, barely looking up when customers walked by then tell me they didn’t do very well at the event. A beautiful display may catch someone’s eye, but genuine interaction is what turns a passerby into a buyer. When customers feel welcomed, comfortable, and curious, they stay longer, ask questions, and form a connection with the work in front of them.
This month’s issue explores simple ways vendors can turn everyday booth traffic into memorable interactions that lead to lasting customers.
Market Buzz
Vendor Intelligence from Recent Events
Each event reveals new patterns in how customers shop and what draws them into a booth. Paying attention to these signals helps vendors adapt and refine their approach.
Customer Engagement Patterns
• Shoppers are more likely to stop when a vendor acknowledges them with a friendly greeting or smile.
• Demonstrations and hands-on experiences consistently attract attention. Even small interactive elements encourage people to pause and explore.
• Booths where the vendor appears approachable and open to conversation often see visitors linger longer.
When customers feel welcome to ask questions or learn more about a product, they naturally become more invested in the purchase.
What Customers Enjoy Experiencing
• Hearing the story behind handmade goods
• Watching something being created or demonstrated
• Being invited to touch, smell, or try products when appropriate
• Vendors who share a little personality or humor
Events are social spaces. People come not only to shop but to connect with the people behind the work.
Trend to Watch
Customers respond strongly to booths where the vendor seems genuinely enthusiastic about their craft. Passion is contagious. When vendors share their excitement about what they make, visitors often become excited as well.
Booth Boss Tip of the Month
Create a Welcoming First Moment
The first few seconds of interaction can determine whether a visitor keeps walking or steps closer to browse.
A simple greeting such as “Feel free to take a look around” or “Let me know if you have any questions” invites customers into the booth without making them feel pressured.
Body language matters too. Standing where visitors can see you, maintaining open posture, and making brief eye contact helps create a welcoming atmosphere.
Small gestures like these make a booth feel friendly rather than intimidating, especially for guests who are naturally more reserved.
Booth Boss Spotlight
Each month we highlight a vendor who brings a strong presentation, personal connection, or creative energy to their booth.

April Challenge: Start the Conversation
Choose one small way to increase engagement at your booth this month.
This could include:
• Greeting every visitor who pauses at your display
• Demonstrating how one of your products works
• Adding a conversation piece to your setup
• Sharing the story behind one of your favorite items
Observe how customers respond and take note of which interactions lead to the most interest and sales.

Final Buzz
Great booths do more than display products. They create small moments of connection that make customers feel welcomed, curious, and excited to explore.
As the season unfolds, we’re excited to see vendors experiment, refine their approach, and continue building their Booth Boss presence at events throughout the region.
Until next time, keep building that Booth Boss energy.
